Fingerprint sensors for Metal, Glass and Display by Qualcomm
Shanghai, June 28:
Chipset maker Qualcomm at the Mobile World Congress (MWC), Shanghai, announced a new line of fingerprint sensors that can be used for Metal, Glass and Display.
These sensors will be very supportive for today's smartphones and will be the target of the smartphone vendors to produce new smartphones.
Tie-up with Vivo
Actually, this fingerprint sensor works with one Vivo company to show off how the sensor works behind the smartphone screen.
For Qualcomm, ultrasonic fingerprint sensing is capable of scanning fingerprints through OLED screens up to 1200 micrometres. The sensor can also scan through aluminium up to 525 micrometres and 800 micrometres of the cover glass. The next sophistication of this sensor is able to scan fingerprints in the water. The fingerprint sensors with support for glass and material will be compatible with multiple Snapdragon 600 and 630 mobile platforms and are likely to appear on commercial devices by 2018.
Qualcomm also announced its new mobile Snapdragon 450 mobile platform chipset, aimed at mid-range smartphones and tablets. Qualcomm claims that this new platform delivers increased performance and graphics by 25 percent compared to the previous 435 Snapdragon platform. This platform has the ARM
Cortex A53 octa-core CPI and the Adreno 506 GPU.
The 450 chipset also supports the live Bokeh effects for the camera and is designed to support 13MP plus 13MP dual camera which enables better camera features for midrange smartphones.
Another launch by Qualcomm is Snapdragon Wear 1200. This platform brings LTE is ready to use and equipped with hardware-based security. Platform Wear 1200 began to be launched today.
